Privacy notice
How The Oldham Group uses personal information.
Who we are
The Oldham Group (registered with the Electoral Commission as The Oldham Group Party, registration number PP17644) is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. Our registration with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is pending; we will publish the reference here once it is issued. To contact us about your data, email privacy@oldhamgroup.co.uk or write to The Oldham Group, 8 Church Lane, Oldham OL1 3AP.
What we collect
Details you give us through our Have your say forms, contact and volunteer forms and donation forms; information needed to meet our legal duties on political donations.
Have your say: policy suggestions and survey
What we collect. When you use the Have your say forms we collect your name, email address, postcode, ward and, if you choose to give it, your mobile number; your policy idea or survey answers (the issues that matter to you, how satisfied you are with Oldham Council, whether you voted at the last local election and any comments); whether you ticked the box to receive updates; the date and time of your submission; and a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, used only to stop spam and abuse.
Why we use it. To read and consider your suggestion or survey answers, to understand what matters to residents in each ward and shape our local policies, to reply to you about what you sent us if needed, and to keep the forms free of spam. If, and only if, you tick the updates box, we will also use your email address and mobile number to send you news about The Oldham Group’s local campaigns by email or text.
Lawful basis. For considering and responding to your suggestion or survey answers, we rely on our legitimate interests and on democratic engagement (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f) and (e), and section 8(e) of the Data Protection Act 2018). For campaign updates by email or text, we rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)), which you give by ticking the box; you can withdraw it at any time and the forms work without it. Your answers may reveal your political opinions; as a registered political party we process this under the condition for political parties in Schedule 1, paragraph 22 of the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who sees it. Our councillors and the people who help run the party. Submissions are stored securely on our UK-based web host and sent to the party by email. We do not sell or share your details with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it. Until 31 May 2029 (two years after the May 2027 local elections), after which it is deleted. If you ask for updates, we keep your contact details for that purpose until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, and we then stop contacting you.
Unsubscribing. We only send campaign emails and texts to people who have opted in, and every message includes a way to unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe from campaign messages at any time by replying STOP to a text, using the unsubscribe link in any email, or emailing privacy@oldhamgroup.co.uk.
Your rights. You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent to updates at any time (reply STOP to a text, use the unsubscribe link in an email, or contact us). To do any of these, email privacy@oldhamgroup.co.uk or write to The Oldham Group, 8 Church Lane, Oldham OL1 3AP. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
